Greek food is sometimes just known for souvlaki and the odd oil dripping moussaka, but there are some really great chefs in Greece that turned this around and will give you authentic dishes, served with love and care, and amazing tastes. See below where to find all of this in Mykonos.
Kostantis Restaurant in Ornos – in a lovely setting overlooking the beach Kostantis will serve you the best zucchini balls, sea fig salad, fresh fish to choose yourself, and finish it all of with a shot of Mastixa.
Alemagou Restaurant in Ftelia – this is an amazing sunset place with beautiful people. Follow the rough road to the restaurant. You might need to wait a bit to be seated, but then you will have the best views while enjoying your dishes.
Fisherman Restaurant in Ano Mera – at this old town square you will find a number of restaurants overlooking the square which is the village get together. Go straight to Fisherman where the grilled calamari, zucchini balls, and original Greek salad will give you a dinner to remember.
Kiki’s Taverna in Agios Sostis beach – run by two brothers this is the most humble place for food that I visited on the Island. They have the wonderful rule that they continue cooking till it is too dark, as they don’t have electricity. There are just a few tables and lining up for yours is part of the experience. When I was there Jean-Paul Gaultier was seated at the next table and he seemed to enjoy the down to earth experience just as much. Check their daily changing salads, grilled calamari and fresh sea food.
Theo’s Garden Restaurant in Platis Yialos – or Auli tou Thodori as they call it in Greece is another one of the lovely restaurants overlooking a beach in a bay. We crashed there straight after the beach, but you might want to dress up a bit before going, as it attracts the more organized people from the surrounding hotels. Order the quinoa salad (or any salad as they are great), grilled octopus, and pasta with any seafood.
Nice n Easy restaurant in Chora – maybe on your first night you don’t feel like roaming the island for great food, then go to the little venice area and visit Nice n Easy. This restaurant is a small chain of restaurants with other branches in Athens and Kifisia. All food is organically sourced and the staff is great. Perfect for a chill dinner in town.
Nicolas Taverna at Agia Anna Paraga – another perfect place for when you come straight from the beach at Paraga. Walk in with your flip-flops and beach gear and have the friendly staff seat you at a table facing the beach. Order the Greek sausage, fish or steak, and some lovely salads. It is nothing fancy but you will be assured to have a great meal.
