With more and more low-cost carriers adding Marrakech to their schedule it is becoming a great opportunity for a non-European weekend break. Indulge yourself in the mysterious walks around the Medina, great food and shopping.
I loved the different restaurants and cafes. Terrasse des Epices is a lovely terrace for lunch with some little shops on the first floor, which are all about turning authentic handicraft into new styles. Cafe des Epices is another one on a lovely square – Place des Epices – which might be a good break for a lunch or drink when roaming around the Medina. Cafe Arabe is a restaurant that should definitely be on your list, pretty much for any time of the day, and then Kosy Bar for a terrace view to the sunset and of course Le Jardin restaurant! Because there are so many nice ones for dinner, squeeze Bakchich in for lunch, with authentic Moroccan food and great people. For a true night out dress up, put your heals on and take a taxi to Palmeraie where you can find Bo&Zin restaurant/club, for a dinner in a true Moroccan setting, DJ on certain evenings and amazingly good food (approx 60 euros pp). And yes, you could check Nikki Beach in Marrakech if you want a chill afternoon, pretending to be on the seaside instead of in a city and spend lots of money;-).
And then the shops! You will find your way negotiating decorations, fabrics, and Moroccan slippers, but do make an effort to find the following ones, which all combine authentic crafts with new designs: bloom at 43, Place Rahma Lakdima, Art Ouarzazate, the shops at Terrace des Epices (on the first floor), Marrakshi life, and Michi. For more shops the website from Marrakech and Beyond is a good help. For more shopping visit the area Gueliz and note that you will need a short taxi ride to get there. It is Moroccan, but not ‘Medina touristy busy’. The 100% Marrakech guide is a great help to get around there.
In Marrakech I stayed in the Medina which can’t been beaten by anything. I found a lovely affordable Riad – Riad Lola – via Airbnb, but I rest assured they will be happy to give you a good proposal when you contact them directly. It was wonderfully decorated, served great breakfast, had a little pool and resting area at the roof and the hosts can provide you with any support for trips or trick to get around.
